The North Shore

The Rapp family spent a long weekend on the North Shore. We planned to camp in Grand Marais. Stopped in Duluth for some fudge and to walk along the pier. I continue to love Duluth and the north shore!

Family selfie :)

Grand Marais’s shorelines are so beautiful and rocky. We had great hiking and exploring.

More fudge :) grand marais is such a cute town with shops, candy store, pizza and right on Lake Superior.
The camp site. Thursday was beautiful and perfect until it started to rain over night. Then it kept raining! We woke up in a wet tent with puddles everywhere. The forecast was predicting rain all day. Yuck. Not my kind of camping. We thought about leaving everything and bailing but luckily we found a hotel room ! There was someone who canceled their hotel room which opened one for us! We spent most of Friday getting all our wet stuff to the hotel to attempt to get it dry. Luckily they had a washer and dryer - what a life saver. By Friday night we were dry, ordered a pizza and watched a movie in bed. So much better than sitting in the rain all day. I enjoy camping but not in the rain.

Hot tub at the hotel! Now this is my kind of a weekend!
Rainy foggy view from the hotel. Right on the shore. It was a lovely hotel.
The views are so breathtaking.
There was a hot air balloon in the parking lot at the camp site. They were giving rides to some people. We sat on the hillside and watched. Cool to see the hot air balloon so close.

The one night we stayed at the campground. Had a fire - cooked dogs and hot chocolates. Fresh warm hot chocolates from the fire is the best! The one night with out rain was great. Our campsite was right on the lake. You could hear the waves and sea gulls - love!
The boys throwing rocks and playing around.

Walking way out to the edge to throw a rock. I love that even through the boys are getting old they still just wanted to throw rocks, grab the right stick and just hang out.

Found the black sand beach! This was my first time here. Each time we go to the North Shore it seems like we find another beautiful beach to explore.

The boys playing with panoramic views.
Even though the rain made our camping a bust it was a wonderful weekend. I really enjoy when we all have time together to just be and have fun. Vacation mode is the best. I love getting to know my kids as they are growing up. I like to hear all their conversations and what makes them - them. I love watching you guys grow up. I am truly blessed with this crew. These are the days and memories that I hope they remember too. Thanks for a great weekend North Shore !
