Hawaii

At the end of the road to Pololu
On this day we road tripped, in our mini van on the West side of the Big Island.  We drove all the way to the end of the road and found this scenic stop.  It has crazy hilly hiking but we decided not to try the trail just because not every one had their tennis shoes on that day.  We found a neat little town with a burger place and had lunch.  We had live music and chickens ran free every where.

Fresh smoothies, ice cream, fruit and homemade banana bread
I remember places like this from our past trips to Hawaii.  I love the small stands with fresh everything, including banana bread! Yummy.  They decorated the trees for Christmas too. LOVE

Ice cream after a ride in the car :)

At 9000 feet on Mauna Kea
We drove up one of the volcano's Mauna Kea.  The volcano goes to an elevation on 14,000 feet but we were stopped at 9,00 feet. because of the kids and the car we were driving.  I guess most cars don't run well past that, and we had a rental.  I learned that they don't let children under 13 over the 9,000 feet elevation related to their developing organs and the lack of oxygen can be bad for them.  Axel was bummed because we were hoping to look at the huge telescopes on the top at the observation place.  Instead we got out of the car and walked around a bit. It was cold up there!  One hour early by the shore line it was 80 degrees and then on the volcano it was in the 40's.  This was also the only time we had rain on our trip.  But we were literally in the cloud!
Driving past the cloud line- so cool

The sun was starting to set.  So cool how the clouds are right there!

Men on top of the world!

Abel working the camera :)

So I'm not going in order of the days we were in Hawaii but instead with the order the pictures placed themselves on my computer.  I just love Hawaii and traveling- even with the kids.  Starting to look at these pictures makes me miss it already and we've just gotten back!  Is it time for another trip?!!!
